Istanbul (Turkey) 25 - 29 November, 1997

AIMS OF THE CONFERENCE

An "End of Project Seminar" will be also called in which the results will be discussed with other esperts in the field and where all AVICENNE prejects employing remote sensing technologies and any other group active on this topic in the Mediterranean basin will be brought together.
(ACROSS Technical Annex - Milestones)

During the last five years, Euro-Mediterranean projects led to important scientific progress in the field of integrated water management and water treatment technologies. A significant part of these projects have been supported by EC - AVICENNE and INCO Initiatives.

To assess the work carried out by EU-funded Euro-Mediterranean RTD projects related to the common subject “WATER”, an International Conference will be held in Antalya, Turkey, on 24 - 28 June 1997.

It shall not only present the achieved research results but also help to identify priority topics for future Euro-Mediterranean co-operative RTD activities, exchanging information on different national and international related research initiatives. It will further offer a platform to potential research result final users (research policy makers, water and land-managers, industry, consumer, etc.), to comment on the work carried out so far; the assembled community will formulate guidelines for future activities.

The opening lecture shall establish the history and the general context of the Conference while four working groups will allow all invited projects to present their work to, and discuss it with an interested and knowledgeable audience.

The working groups shall also draw conclusions from the presentations and establish concrete ideas concerning appropriate future co-operative work.

Final day will be devoted to presentation and discussion about working group conclusions.

The conference will be closed by a round table discussion where representatives from various types of RTD ”users” will explain which conclusions they draw from the technical presentations and the state-of-the art in the field of water related RTD. In an open discussion with the attending scientists it is intended to establish the areas of research which should be in the focus of future Euro-Med RTD-cooperation, taking due account of the ideas and possibilities of the scientific area as well as of the needs of the end-users of the information generated by it.

A poster section and a general discussion will follow each group of presentations concerning the same subject in order to highlight to the others attendees the conclusions and results they have reach.
