Dr T. Adri Buishand
Adri Buishand was born in Hoorn (North Holland) on 19 November 1949. He graduated at the Agricultural University of Wageningen in 1974. He received a Doctor's degree at the same University in 1977. His thesis was on stochastic modelling of daily rainfall sequences. Since 1978 he is employed at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute as a statistician. He contributed significantly to the scientific literature on the statistical analysis of rainfall data (detection of non-homogeneities, extreme value analysis, spatial dependence, chemical composition of rain). He is currently involved in climate change research (production of scenarios for impact assessment, evaluation of output from GCM runs) and a pilot study concerning the design discharges for the construction of the dikes along the river Rhine.
