Education

Studies in Civil Engineering at the Technical Universities of Stuttgart and Munich.

Degree as "Dipl.-Ing." at the Technical University of Munich, 1961.

Post-graduate studies in Civil Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1963/64.

Academic and Professional Experience

1964-1968 Assistant to Prof. in the Institute of Water Resources and Hydraulic Structures, (Prof. Hartung) Technical University Munich.

1969-1970 Consulting Engineer with the firm "Dr. Kalweit and Dr. Björnsen, Koblenz,Germany in the years.

1970-1977 Chief Enginner to Prof. Plate at the Institute of Water Management, Technical University, Karlsruhe, Germany.

Since 1977 Professor in the Department of Civil Eng., Ruhr University Bochum, Germany,

Director of the Institute for Hydrology, Water Resources and Environmental Techniques.

1980-1981 Head of Department (Civil Engineering).

1987-1989 Rappourter to UNESCO for "Remote Sensing in Hydrology and Water Management".

Since 1989 Chairman of the IAHS/WMO Working Group for GEWEX and member of the "Scientific Steering Group for GEWEX" (Global Energy and Water Experiment of the World Climate Research Program, WMO).

1991 Vice President and President of the "International Committee on Remote Sensing and Data Transmission" of the "International Association of Hydrological Sciences".

1991-1993 Vice President of the International Water Resources Association.

Journals

Associate editor to the journals: Journal of Hydrology, Hydrological Science Journal and WASSERWIRTSCHAFT for several years.

Publications

Over 120 papers, most of them in international publications.
