Prof. Johannes Wessel

Born in 1931

Current Position

Full Professor at the Delft University of Technology in public law and public administration since 1971

Director of the Centre for Comparative Studies on River Basin Administration

Academic and Professional Experience

1989 He founded the RBA Centre for Comparative Studies on River Basin Administration of which he became the Director. A Board of Trustees of some legal and technical experts was established as well. Recently two students, Mr. Wisserhof and Mr. Mostert, took their Ph.D. degree at the RBA Centre.

Since 1991 He holds the Chair of water law and administration at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. There he also chairs at the Working Group on Integrated Water Management of the Delft University of Technology.

1990 A Rhine Danube project was started, in close cooperation with the Technical University of Budapest and the University of Karlsruhe.

1993-1995 RBA Centre participated in the EUROWATER-Project, comparing the water management of Germany, France, England, Portugal and the Netherlands.

present 4 students are preparing their Ph.D. theses at the RBA Centre, concentrating on river basin administration of international rivers like the Rhine, the Meuse and the Scheldt.
